MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night in the Socastee area, according to officials.
Horry County Fire Rescue said crews were called to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Socastee Boulevard and Weeks Drive at around 8:25 p.m.
Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol later said a 2014 Buick Enclave heading north on Socastee Boulevard struck the pedestrian while they were crossing the highway.
The driver of the Buick was the only person inside and was not hurt, Bolt said.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard later identified the pedestrian as 53-year-old Gabriel Carrillo Palma, who lived in the area. Willard added that Palma died at the scene of “multiple traumatic injuries.”
No further details were immediately available.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with assistance from the Horry County Police Department.
