FIRST ALERT: Weekend wash-out, chilly temperatures return
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Rain chances increase Friday ahead of a round of heavy rain for the weekend.
A cold front will move into the Carolinas on Friday. Temperatures ahead of the front will remain mild with Friday highs in the upper 60s to near 70.
The front will also bring a surge of moisture into the area with showers steadily increasing through the day. The best chance of rain comes late in the day, turning steady into Friday evening.
The front moves offshore Friday night allowing cooler weather to return to the area. At the same time, low pressure starts to develop and will cause rain to redevelop over the region through the weekend. Periods of heavy rain will be possible at times especially Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.
With the rain, temperatures will steadily turn cooler through the week. High temperatures on Saturday will struggle to reach 50 with a gusty wind at times. Cool weather will continue on Sunday as the rain gradually tapers off late in the day.
Amounts from Friday through Sunday will likely reach 2 to 3 inches in most areas with totals of 4 inches possible in some locations.
