BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been suspended after his arrest during the early hours of Jan. 23 in Horry County.

North Myrtle Beach Police Department arrested 58-year-old James Richey Geiger just after 1 a.m. and charged him with driving under the influence.

Per the BCSO, Geiger is being suspended without pay as of this time.

According to a case report from the NMBPD, an officer stated that he performed a traffic stop on a truck driven by Geiger after allegedly seeing the vehicle swerve within its lane and appear to strike a curb numerous times.

Geiger and a passenger in the vehicle told the officer they had just left a strip club and that Geiger was the designated driver, according to the report. When asked if he consumed alcohol, Geiger reportedly told the officer he had approximately three mixed drinks.

The report says that he had a blood alcohol level of .12. The legal limit is .08.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office website, Geiger is a member of the office’s “I.M.P.A.C.T.” team, which serves to “educate citizens about current laws and techniques to deter and prevent criminal activities.”
