FIRST ALERT: Quick hitting rain and storms move in overnight

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A quick hitting round of rain arrives late tonight through early Thursday before clearing skies and more comfortable weather returns by Friday and the weekend.

TONIGHT

An approaching cold front will be accompanied by a surge of humidity late tonight. As a result, rain chances will quickly increase late tonight. The best risk of rain arrives after midnight. A few thunderstorms and bouts of heavy rain will be possible. However, no severe weather or flooding is expected. Temperatures will remain mild overnight with readings in the middle to upper 60s.

THURSDAY

Showers and a few downpours will linger for the early morning hours on Thursday before quickly ending. The morning commute will feature wet roads and showers that gradually taper off. By the afternoon and evening, rain chances will drop to just 20% with even some peeks of sunshine likely by the end of the day. Temperatures will once again be very warm with afternoon temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80.

THROUGH THE WEEKEND

Cooler and drier weather will filter in behind the front and make for a spectacular round of fall weather from Friday through the weekend.

With plenty of sunshine, temperatures on Friday and Saturday will climb into the lower 70s. Temperatures by Sunday will rebound back into the middle and upper 70s as sunny skies continue.
